Royal palm bugs, ganoderma butt rot, palm weevil, leathal yellowing, leaf skeletonizer and scales can affect Royal Palms.
Royal palm bugs attack the newest leaves of the Royal Palm Tree. When new fronds open, they look burned and brown. Infestation activates in the spring and summer. Preventive treatment with proper insecticides is an effective method against the royal palm bugs. Sometimes it can be very challenging due to its majestic height.
The Royal palm tree is susceptible to lethal yellowing. The disease can infect and kill Roystonea Elata. The first symptoms of the disease are browning, yellowing and wilting of the fronds. The final stage is the death of the bud. Chemical control with repeated insecticide applications is a preventive method against lethal yellowing.
Palm weevil is another serious threat to the Royal palm. The disease causes the frond damage. The primary symptoms are an unpleasant odour, and an incomplete crown of broken fronds. Early detection of weevil infestation is very difficult. If your tree is infested, it is impossible to save the tree. It should be cut down and destroyed. Chemical control is a good preventive measure against the disease.
Ganoderma butt rot is one of the most devastating diseases of Roystoena Elata. The disease kills palms when it infects. There is no efective treatment for this disease, only prevention. The disease is often spread through infected pruning tools and injuries on the trunk and roots. The preventive method is always sterilizing the gardening tools and avoiding damaging the trunk and roots.
