Royal Palm Physical Characteristics
The Royal Palm Tree has a majestic and neat appearance. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful palm tree in the world. Roystonea Regia looks especially attractive when its foliage sways in the breeze.
Roystonea Elata has a very tall, clean, smooth, columnar, stout, cement-like, whitish in color, bulged trunk. This tree grows to a majestic height of 100 feet tall with a spread of 25 feet.
Roystonea Regia has a beautiful crownshaft of about 15-20 gently drooping leaves that often reaching 10-13 feet. They are bright green in color, feather-shaped and very soft.
In strong winds the tree easily loses their leaves. The lower leaves always dry out and fall off, and new fronds emerge above them from the center of the top of the tree.

The Royal palm produces long 3-4 feet or more inflorescense on the branched panicles. The flowers are borne, male and female flowers on the same inflorescense. The flowers grow in threes: one female and two males. They are creamy white in color and extremely fragrant.
The Royal Palm forms oblong green fruits. When ripe they become bright red or purple in color.
